Use different certificates for each Web site
If you host several Web sites on one server, you'll be glad to know that you can use a different
certificate for each site. This is useful if you host commercial Web sites for multiple companies.
You need certificates for each site, and each site must have a unique domain name. You cannot
assign two certificates to one domain.
The easiest way to host different sites with different certificates on one Web server is to assign
each site a unique IP address and domain name. First, make sure domains hosted on the server are
working correctly and with different IP addresses. Next, get two certificates, one for each domain.
You can obtain the certificates using Microsoft CA server, which ships with Windows 2000 Server,
or use a third-party certificate.
Here's what you need to do once you have the certificate:
Open the Internet Information Manager console.
Right-click the site that will use SSL and select Properties.
Click the Directory Security tab, click Server Certificate, and follow the wizard to assign an
After you import the certificate, click Edit on the Directory Security tab, select Require Secure
Channel (SSL). (Note: To access the Web site, you'll now have to use "https," instead of "http.")
For additional security, you can also select the Require 128-bit Encryption option.
Repeat the above steps for the second site, but import a different certificate.
