A quick tour of Service Pack 3
Microsoft released Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows 2000 in the summer of 2002. Maybe you've
been putting off installing SP3 because you haven't had a chance to check out the long list of issues
SP3 includes several fixes for Terminal Services that deal with lockups and network printing
problems, as well as changes to license management that improve connectivity and the way client
access licenses are assigned.
Although many of these Terminal Services fixes apply specifically to Windows 2000 Server, they
also affect Windows 2000 Professional when it's used as a Terminal Services client.
USB is one area where SP3 can have a big impact for Windows 2000 Professional users. SP3
contains numerous USB bug fixes and some performance enhancements. There are numerous core
OS fixes, security patches, networking fixes, and application compatibility patches in SP3, as well.
All of these improve Windows 2000 Professional's performance, reliability, and security.
SP3, like SP2, will no doubt introduce some problems of its own. Nevertheless, the sheer number of
bugs that it addresses--including many caused by SP2--makes deployment a good idea for Windows
