Learn a few Rasphone tricks for Windows 2000 server
Windows 2000 ships with a lot of command line utilities that do some really neat things.
Rasphone.exe is among these utilities.
When you run Rasphone.exe, you'll only notice the awkward Location Information dialog box that
prompts you for your country, area code, and type of phone system. This is the same dialog box you
get when you run Phone And Modem Options from the Control Panel. The beauty of this utility
lies in command line switches.
To view these command line switches, start Command Prompt and type rasphone /?. You'll notice
several switches that allow you to add, edit, clone, and remove phonebook entries.
Rasphone.exe's best feature is the -s switch. If you've ever used dial-up on Windows NT 4, you'll
recognize the Dial-Up Networking Monitor that pops up. The -s switch displays information about
your connections, including:
Duration of the connection.
Transmitted and received bytes/frames.
Device errors such as CRC errors, buffer overruns, and hardware errors.
If you're still working with a dial-up or similar connection, Rasphone.exe -s is a great tool for you.
