Manage network connections with Netcons.exe
IT support pros who work with a lot of network shares might have trouble keeping all of the shares
straight. Plus, you might prefer to use some shares from an Explorer window but use other shares
mostly from a command console. If either of these situations fits you, the Windows 2000
Professional Resource Kit includes a tool you'll appreciate.
The Net Connections tool (Netcons.exe) provides a GUI you can use to see all of your network
connections separate from your local drives. The interface shows the local drive letter as well as the
UNC path to the share. When you double-click a share, Net Connections performs one of two
actions depending on how you configure the program.
Net Connections either opens an Explorer window or a command console focused on the root of the
share. You can switch between default actions with a quick menu selection. You can also configure
the Net Connections window for always-on-top behavior, making it available any time you need it
