Terminal Services profiles
After installing Terminal Services (TS) on a Windows 2000 Server, you'll get an option to assign a
Terminal Services Profile to each user. This profile is like the normal Windows profile, but is only
used when the user logs on through the Terminal Server session.
Because everything the user sees on his or her screen has to be transferred across the network
(slowing the response), you usually don't want large bitmaps, sound effects, and other multimedia
content on the Terminal Server. The Terminal Services Profile allows you to create special user
profile that is customized to the TS.
If you use local accounts, follow these steps:
Open the Computer Management console.
Select Local Users And Group.
Go to the Terminal Services Profile tab.
Type the path to the profile in the User Profile box.
If you use domain accounts, follow these steps:
Open Active Directory Users And Computer.
Go to the Terminal Services Profile tab.
Type the path to the profile in the User Profile box.
As with normal profiles, you can also create Read-only and mandatory user profiles to be used for
Terminal Server sessions.
