Windows Media Services

Once you install Windows Media Services, you need to provide streaming content to your clients.

The content can be in a form or multimedia files stored on your Windows 2000 Server's hard drive

(e.g., an .avi, an .mp3, or a .wma file) or a live video stream from a camera or any other supported

device. Depending on the type of content, you also need to set up an appropriate publishing point.

Windows Media Services supports two types of publishing points:

On-Demand Unicast Publishing Points deliver content that can be stopped, paused, and controlled

by the client. (For instance, users can play, stop, and pause multimedia files that are stored on the

server's hard drive.)

Broadcast Unicast Publishing Points cannot be controlled by the client. (For instance, a user cannot

pause live video feeds, just like you cannot pause and reverse a regular TV program.)

You can also create a new Multicast Station. (Stations are just another name for "publishing

points" that deliver the content to multicast-enabled clients.) Once you create a publishing point

on a station, you simply give your clients the link to it
