Pull RealPlayer streaming audio through a firewall

Are you aware that some Web sites prefer to serve streaming audio via Microsot's RealPlayer

rather than in the Media Player format (or even accepting both formats)? Because of this, you

might need to change your firewall configuration to allow audio streams with RealPlayer. Or, as

with Media Player, you can configure RealPlayer to use HTTP port 80, which is probably already

open on your firewall.

The default port for UDP streams in RealPlayer is 7070. So you can open port 7070 on the firewall

and get RealPlayer to work through the firewall. Another option is to specify a different port in

RealPlayer and open that port on the firewall. In RealPlayer, choose View | Preferences, and then

click the Transport tab. Select the option Use Specific UDP Port(s) and enter the single port or port

range that you opened on the firewall.

If you don't have control of the firewall or can't get the network administrator to make any

changes, you can configure RealPlayer to use HTTP port 80 only. To do so, choose View |

Preferences, and click the Transport tab. Click Use Specified Transport and click RTSP Settings.

Then, select the option Use HTTP Only and click OK.
