| Perform certain admin tasks with the Recovery Console |
| The Recovery Console is a disaster recovery tool that ships with Windows 2000. It's a special |
| Windows 2000 command-line mode that allows you to perform certain administrative tasks, such as |
| enabling/disabling services, copying files, and repairing the boot sector. |
| You can run the Recovery Console directory from a CD or from your hard drive. If you want to run |
| it from a CD, put the Windows 2000 CD into your CD-ROM drive and boot the computer from this |
| CD. When prompted, if you want to install Windows 2000, select option [R] (for repair) and then |
| press [C] (for Recovery Console). The computer will now boot to a special command-line interface. |
| You can also install the Recovery Console to your hard drive and use it without the CD. To install |
| it, run the Winnt.32 file from Windows 2000 with the /cmdcons switch (\i386\winnt32.exe/cmdcons). |
