| Share files with Web folders, part 2 |
| Part one provided you with a brief overview of Web folders. Now, in order to use Web folders, you |
| must install IIS on your Windows 2000 Server and then create a virtual folder on the Web server. |
| To do so, follow these steps: |
| On the server with IIS, run the Internet Services Manager console. |
| On the chosen Web site, create a new virtual folder by right-clicking on the site and selecting New |
| and then Virtual Directory. |
| Follow the wizard to create an alias and to specify the path to the virtual directory on your hard |
| On the dialog box with access permissions, select Read, Write, and Browse. |
| Now your users can access this folder through My Network Places just like any other shared folder. |
| Double-click Add Network Place and follow the wizard to create the shortcut to the Web folder. |
| Some applications like Office 2000 and XP allow you to directly work with a Web folder. Also, IE |
| 5.0 and later supports World Wide Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV). In IE, |
| select Open from the File menu, type the URL to the Web folder, and select the Open As Web |
| Folder check box. Now you can work with the Web folder like you would with any other shared |
