| Secure your servers with SP3 |
| Microsoft recently released the third Service Pack for Windows 2000. Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes |
| all the patches from previous Windows 2000 service packs and all security patches that were |
| previously distributed with Windows 2000 Security Rollup Package 1. |
| Before installing SP3, carefully read the release notes, which include important information |
| regarding compatibility and other issues. It's important to know that SP3 automatically upgrades |
| your system to 128-bit encryption. Even if you later remove SP3, your system will continue to use |
| 128-bit encryption, and you won't be able to revert to 56-bit. (Kerberos, EFS, remote access, RPC, |
| SSL/TLS, CrypoAPI, RDP, and IPSec use 128-bit encryption.) |
| SP3 includes a new version of Windows Installer, 2.0. Again, even if you remove SP3, you won't be |
| able to get version 1.1. Additionally, SP3 includes Automatic Updates service, which allows users to |
| automatically download and install updates. |
