| Add these licensing utilities to your toolbox |
| All versions of Windows 2000 servers include the Terminal Services technology that allows users to |
| work on a remote computer and see its output just like they were working directly behind that |
| computer. Many administrators don't like how Microsoft handles the licenses for accessing the |
| Terminal Server. Even though Microsoft changed this a bit, you'll still find a great value in two |
| utilities from the Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit. |
| Terminal Services Licensing Reporter (Lsreport.exe) is a command-line tool that displays |
| information about licenses granted by the Terminal Services licensing servers. Running the utility |
| without any parameters causes the utility to write all of the information into a file named |
| Lsreport.txt. You can use any text editor to view this file. You can also specify another output file |
| and even another licensing server. |
| Another useful Terminal Services utility from the Resource Kit is the Terminal Services License |
| Server Viewer (Lsview.exe). This GUI-based utility displays the name and the type of the Terminal |
| Services license servers in the current domain. It's helpful for monitoring and checking the status |
| of license servers. The utility regularly checks licensing servers and displays the last time each |
