Stay safe with Software Update Services
Microsoft recently released Software Update Services (SUS), a security patch management tool
that you can use to distribute critical operating system fixes and security roll-ups to Windows 2000
Servers and Windows 2000 and Windows XP Professional desktops.
There are two parts of SUS: server and client. The server component is installed on a Windows
2000 Server and synchronizes updates with the Windows Update site. You can manually
synchronize the content or let it happen automatically. After the updates are downloaded, you can
test them and approve them for installation on your network.
The client part (Automatic Updates) is installed on all Windows 2000 computers with Service Pack
2 and Windows XP computers. It allows clients to automatically connect to the SUS server and
receive any updates. You get to define the schedule when clients get the updates.
Get more information about both utilities by visiting the Software Update Services Web site.
