Catch up on Service Pack changes in Windows 2000
There are two major changes in how Microsoft is handling Windows 2000 Service Packs (SPs).
First, Windows 2000 SPs 1, 2, and 3 (and any future SPs) now allow you to integrate the SP files

Copy the i386 folder from the Windows 2000 CD to your hard drive (e:\w2k\i386).
Extract the Service Pack files by running w2ksp3.exe /x
Run the update command from the extracted SP files:

The second significant change in the way Microsoft is handling SPs is the smart nature of Windows
2000. In Windows NT 4 and older, you had to reinstall the latest SP whenever you installed a
system component that required the original Windows NT CD. In Windows 2000, this is no longer
necessary because the Windows 2000 SP installer takes care of this and updates the necessary files.
