Add a document shortcut to the Windows desktop directly from Word
(Word 97-2000-2002)!
If there's a particular document you need to access frequently,
you can access it quickly by creating a shortcut to it on the
Windows desktop. Chances are you already know how to create file
and folder shortcuts using Windows Explorer, My Computer, or the
Create Shortcut Wizard. But did you know that you can just as
easily create a shortcut to a Word document directly from Word?
First, click the Open button on the Standard toolbar, or choose
File | Open from the menu bar. In the Open dialog box, locate the
document you want your desktop shortcut to point to. Right-click
on the document, then choose Send To | Desktop (Create Shortcut)
from the resulting shortcut menu. If Word informs you that the new
shortcut will be placed on the desktop, click OK. Then, click
Cancel to dismiss the Open dialog box. You can now access your
document directly from the Desktop just by double-clicking on its
shortcut icon. (Note: You can also use this technique to create a
shortcut that points to a folder or other file type instead of a
Word document.)
Reducing Fractions in Excel 2000!
There are times when one needs to reduce fractions--especially if
one is in school and learning how to reduce fractions. Perhaps you
shouldn't tell your own young scholars about this, but Excel
automatically reduces fractions.
To see how this works, run Excel and click cell A1. Choose
Format|Cells. When the dialog box opens, select Fraction under
"Category" and then, under "Type", select "Up to three digits
(312/943)" and click OK.
Excel will reduce any fraction you enter to its most basic form.
If you enter 52/104, for example, Excel will display 1/2. If you
enter a fraction that won't reduce any further, Excel will display
it as entered. As an example, you could enter 312/943.
Hiding database objects from view (Access 97-2000-2002)!
Although you may typically want to let users access any object in
a database, there may be certain times when you would that users
are unable to see certain tables, queries, or other objects. If
so, you can flag an object as being hidden. By default, such
objects are invisible. To flag an object, right-click on it in the
Database window, and choose Properties from the shortcut menu.
When the Properties dialog box appears, select the Hidden check
box and click OK. Note that users can still get to the object if
they really want to -- and you can temporarily redisplay the
object if you later want to clear the Hidden property setting. To
display objects that are normally hidden, choose Tools | Options
from the menu bar. Then, click on the View tab, select the Hidden
Objects check box in the Show panel and click OK.
