Edit different parts of a document in the same window in Word 2000!
One of Word's more powerful yet lesser-known features is the ability to edit two different parts of a single document in the same window. Start by splitting the current window into two panes, either by using the Window | Split menu or by dragging the small slider at the top of the right scroll bar. You can then navigate to different parts of a document in the two panes, making sure, for instance, that what you say on page 2 is consistent with what you say on page 10.

The F6 key lets you jump between the two. You can close the second pane with Window | Remove Split or by dragging the dividing line between the panes to the top of the window.
Microsoft Office 2000 programs, including Excel 2000!
Microsoft Office 2000 programs, including Excel 2000, contain a command line called Detect And Repair, which checks and fixes problems with Office program files, DLLs, and Registry settings. (This utility does not affect worksheets or other document files.)

Detect And Repair, which you access as a command-line option of the Setup utility, performs the following actions:

-Reinstalls Office .exe and .dll files if missing, out-of-date, or corrupt
-Reinstalls all Windows Installer shortcuts, overwriting any existing shortcuts
-Rewrites all required local machine registry values
-Rewrites all required user registry values

You can run Detect And Repair from within Office, but that won't do much good if a serious error is preventing your user from even launching an Office application. Fortunately, you can run the utility from the Run dialog box with the following entry:

drive:setup.exe /focums install.msi

Undo a series of changes in Access 2000
Access 2000, like other Office suite applications, supports the Undo command. However, unlike other Office applications, repeatedly going to Edit | Undo doesn't automatically undo the most recent series of changes you've made.

Sometimes you'll make multiple changes to a form or a report in Design view before you realize you've gone down the wrong path. When that happens, how do you undo those changes? You could simply close the database and answer "No" when Access asks if you want to save your changes, but there's a better way to undo unwanted changes.

As soon as you realize that you've made changes you don't want to keep, open the File menu and choose Revert. Choosing Revert restores the form or report to the state it was in before you started the current editing session. You can then begin again.

Note: The Revert option is only available under the File menu if you've made changes in Design view.
