Check DirectX components with Dxdiag

DirectX, a Microsoft technology that provides multimedia services to Windows users, comprises

several application programming interfaces (APIs) that provide video, audio, and input services for

high-performance multimedia.

If you need to determine a version number, troubleshoot, or configure settings for DirectX, use the

DirectX Diagnostic Tool, Dxdiag. To use the diagnostic tool, open a command console and enter

DXDIAG at the command prompt.

Dxdiag provides a tabbed dialog box that offers extensive information about DirectX version,

installed files, and drivers. Use the Display tab to view and change display settings and to perform

tests for DirectDraw and Direct3D. Use the Sound tab to configure audio acceleration and test

DirectSound. Additional tabs enable you to view and test other DirectX components for networking,

input, and other audio properties.

Dxdiag is useful when troubleshooting application problems. With Dxdiag, you can export all

DirectX properties to a text file, which your users can forward to you and which you can forward to

Microsoft Support Services if necessary.
