Where's that taskbar

You might have been eyeing the Windows XP desktop and thinking you'd like that kind of clean,

uncluttered appearance for your Windows 2000 desktop. No icons, no taskbar, no Start menu. . .just

wallpaper (or a black screen, if you prefer).

You probably already know that you can auto-hide the taskbar. Just right-click the taskbar, choose

Properties, and select the Auto Hide option. The taskbar then hides below the bottom of the display,

reappearing if you move the pointer to the bottom of the display.

If you turn off Always On Top for the taskbar, the taskbar won't reappear if an application or

Explorer window is maximized. That's not a major inconvenience, but it does mean that you have to

restore or minimize the window to access the taskbar. If you prefer not to have to do that, just open

the Properties for the taskbar and turn on Always On Top.
